PROVISIONAL WAIVER HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO SPOUSES OF PERMANENT RESIDENTS AND SOME OTHERS

As of Aug. 29, 2016, certain spouses of permanent residents are now also eligible to participate in the provisional waiver program.  As a reminder, this waiver was initially implemented in 2012 for spouses of U.S. citizens who had entered the country without permission.  It allows spouses that meet certain criteria to ask for this waiver while inside the United States, thereby shortening the time spent outside of the country tremendously.  Under the expansion, spouses of permanent residents can also apply for this waiver.  It is important to remember that these spouses will still need to wait in the normal visa line which normally takes several years.  Also, in limited circumstances, adult children of permanent residents may be able to participate.
