Deferred Action and Dreamers

The Obama Administration has instituted a program to issue work permits to certain young people who entered the United States before the age of 16.

 

These individuals must meet certain physical presence and residency requirements among other criteria.  This program is known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals or DACA.

Young people who benefit from this program or sometimes called Dreamers.  It is possible that the U.S. government will choose to give Dreamers more permanent immigration benefits than just a work permit in the future.
